Keen studied business at San Diego State University, and entrepreneurism prevailed. The fundamental principles of service, quality communication, negotiation, and solid action have guided him in ventures for more than 40 years. He earned “top producer” status in a publicly-traded company, traveling the U.S. and Canada as a national sales trainer and keynote speaker. It all started when he was nine and opened his first business, an icy cup stand in Hawaii.
Adventure has also been a cornerstone in his life. Keen first arrived at the Emerald Coast from California in 1981 by bicycle and then rode it back to California to return to school. Rediscovering the coast with his wife and business partner, Kim, more than 20 years later was, in his words, “splendid.” They were married at the Santa Rosa Beach Club in 1999. “Our love of the coast and the great outdoors, passion for real estate, and the joy of working with people and each other makes our life here such a pleasure.”
As a freshly-minted Real Estate Agent in 2007, he began developing a new skillset with a national real estate auction firm. Within a few years, he and Kim were recruited into the company now known as Scenic Sotheby’s International Realty. “The culture of collaboration and the level of professionalism and production is awe-inspiring. What we now offer our clients is more than we ever knew possible,” he said.
He serves on the board of directors for Alaqua Animal Refuge and enjoys volunteering for the Seagrove Garden Club, the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County, Sinfonia, Food for Thought, and the Seacrest Wolf Preserve.
